GianChand Whisky

This rare spirit is a tribute to a remarkable personality – our founder Dewan Gian Chand. Six decades ago he pioneered and perfected the craft of creating the finest brews and malts in India. It took us nearly 60 years to create a singular whisky that is marvellous enough to grace his name. His legacy lives on in every batch of this bottled flawlessness.

Jammu is a land steeped in history, rich in culture and heritage and blessed with a unique geography. Situated in the lap of the Himalayas, its water and weather have played an essential role in creating the exceptional character of GianChand Single Malt Whisky.

PREM DEWAN

Chairman and Managing Director, who took over the reins of Devans Modern Breweries in 1982. Under his aegis, the company won several awards including the International Star Award for Quality in the Gold Category in the International Quality Convention held at Geneva in 2008.

This is one of the most fascinating whiskies I have come across. Unlike any other Indian malt I have encountered before.

THE

DISTILLERY

The flagship distillery is located in the lap of the Himalayas at Jammu which provides unique climatic and geographical conditions for the manufacture and maturation of Malt spirits. The spirit is distilled in unique long swan neck copper pot stills, designed in-house. The maturation journey which started with 5 barrels has now crossed the 7000 barrels mark and is still progressing strongly.

THE

PRODUCT

GianChand is a premium Single Malt Whisky with a unique character which it owes to the place it hails from- Jammu. Handcrafted in a distillery situated in the lap of the Himalayas, GianChand has a rich golden colour, a distinctive sweetish and spicy taste and peaty fruity notes. A smooth, light and easy to drink single malt.

TASTING

NOTES

COLOUR
Brilliant gold.

NOSE
Elegant and delicate nose of brandy snaps and gingerbread, dried apricots, prunes, honeycomb toffee, hay and sweet spice, with mild notes of peat and dry oak in the backend.

PALATE
A sweet, creamy start, delicate nutty honeycomb, a touch of salt, hints of dried ginger and fruits, quickly evolving into a dry, lightly tannic astringency with a pop of spice. Simple and smooth.

FINISH
A medium to long dry finish with hints of bitter chocolate and the zing of white pepper.
